In-Depth with Bobbie Thomas

Nat: Speaking of work, what was it like getting the Today show for the first time?

Bobbie: Equal parts anxious and excited. I was about to learn why TODAY really is a family. I was amazed then by the team’s work ethic and the loyalty of viewers and still am a decade later. It’s very special, inside and out and I’m humbled to be a small part of such an iconic program.

Nat: Describe the first time you were noticed. What did that feel like?

Bobbie: Tickled pink. In some way, a tiny bit bashful but overjoyed that something I shared had connected with someone else, especially other women. It’s the ultimate compliment and why I prefer ‘professional girlfriend’ as opposed to style editor or beauty expert.

Nat: When did you feel like you’d made it?

Bobbie: I don’t know that I’ll ever feel like I’ve “made it”. Beyond my personality quirks, it’s also the nature of the entertainment business. I think most people realize it can be very fleeting so it’s best to not put your sense of accomplishment into any one achievement. But the moment I first felt content, as though I was truly happy with my life exactly the wait is, was July 21, 2005 when Miles was born and most, if not all, of the things I used to stress out about more or less melted away.

Nat: How do you define success?

Bobbie: When you spend your days doing what you like to do rather than simply what you have to do and having people you love to share it all with.

Nat: Okay, let’s have some fun! What’s your most embarrassing mom moment?

Bobbie: Oh my gosh, that’s a good one. I don’t get embarrassed very easily. Girl, I’ve been on live TV in my Spanx without any coverage! I don’t really have an issue.

Go-To Mom Outfit

I love leggings because you can dress them up or down. I can toss on a really great, chic tunic and boots and go to dinner, have lunch with my girlfriends or I can slip on my sneakers and sweatshirt. That’s one of my key pieces. I love my cardi wraps because they look chic and they drape, but at the same time, they’re cozy and casual.  My cardi wrap, my leggings, and my boots are my go-to’s, all the time, and a scarf. That’s like my adult blanket.

Favorite Moment of the Day

Miles loves the changing table, which is kind of hilarious. He just laughs and giggles whenever he’s naked and I wish I could just eat him and keep him alive at the same time.  After I’m like, “Can I eat you, but will you still be here?”  The changing table is really special because he’s just so cute.  He laughs and feels so free and it’s just so cute. And whenever he’s waking up. Whether it’s the first wake-up of the day, and you say, “Good Morning!” or from a nap and he goes from blurry-eyed to a big old grin that just bursts out. I could melt. It’s amazing.

Date Night

What is that? [Laughs] When he bathes Miles? I don’t know. It may be that our favorite date night is when he’s finally sleeping for at least an hour and we’re sitting there trying not to make a sound and staring at him. It’s having a staring contest at Miles.

Turn On

I have this joke where I say, “two percent”. He actually started it with me, I think, where I made the bed and he’s like, “two percent.” And I was like, “What?” He was like, “ I love you two percent more.” He has so many of those with me. He’s just really involved, very supportive. But, turn on, when he makes the bottle. It’s so sexy to see a guy be like “Oh, let me make a bottle, I’ll go do that for you.”  That’s like so fucking hot.  I wish that men understood that changing diapers and making bottles is really sexy to a woman.

Girls Night

My favorite girl’s night could be breakfast, lunch or dinner, any moment of the day that I get to be with the women in my life that I love is awesome. We could be in an elevator and we find time to laugh. My team here at the office, these are my sisters and we love what we do so much because we focus on other women. It’s just so much female energy and we’re really lucky to work together.

DVR

I like all of the Homeland, Scandal, those shows. I’ve been watching shows like You’re the Worst, which is hilarious.

Splurge

I haven’t been able to do it lately but I usually love getting my nails done and kind of taking a time-out.

Save

I actually prefer shopping discount department stores than in-season, high-end, boutiques, because it’s the challenge, but it’s also that when things are in-season it’s a little easy for me to just get inundated with it. It’s my role as a journalist to answer, “What’s the trend? What’s in style?” I’m always excited by revisiting things that might have been left over from past seasons that you can make your own and unique. I really love looking through a hodge-podge, whether it’s a discount department store or a thrift store. I’m very frugal, I don’t tend to splurge that often. But I do love that because it’s also a way to be creative, to see something in a new light. It’s not styled or on the radar so it pushes me to see something and how I would wear it. I really love that.

Bobbie’s next adventure

I’m really excited about next steps for Woosh Beauty. My partner Andrea and I have some great ideas we’re eager to unveil and I’m also excited to see Miles grow more and more everyday. It’s all been quite the adventure so far, I can only imagine what’s in store.
