The Greenbrier

My sister and her family, who live in Virginia, have been going to The Greenbrier for years but we’d never been so when it came time to meet my family somewhere for MLK weekend and she suggested it, I was all in; I love checking out new places. I just didn’t realize how far it was and we waited till the last minute to figure out our travel plans so driving really was the best and most affordable option. But 8 hours in the car with an already uncomfortable pregnant person and a carsick-prone toddler probably isn’t advisable. Still, nausea and vomit aside, it was worth it because the resort is really special.

Designed by Dorothy Draper, it’s bold, bright and full of character. Every where you turn, there’s another vibrant and whimsical room just begging to be photographed. You know I love that. But it’s not just the decor, the entire place is full of charm from the hands-on toy store to Draper’s diner which displays elaborate gingerbread houses and cakes and dolls out free ice cream to kids (get passes at the front desk).

And the entire place is chock full of things to do from the casino and bowling alley, to nightly movies in the theater, carriage rides, indoor swimming and ice skating and that’s just in the winter. There’s an entirely different set of summer activities not to mention, my favorite, the year-round spa.

One of the many amazing meals we had was at the chef’s table at Prime 44 West, the resort’s steakhouse.

It was fun for the kids and adults alike to watch the chefs in action.

Headed “home” (which Lilly said she never wanted to leave) after another great night.

Time to skate!

Right when we were ready to go, they had to clean the ice. Lilly exclaimed, “waiting is hard” and proceeded to pretend nap along with fake snoring. This kid. The personality is not lacking.

One of my favorite shots. I love watching the three of them together.

After a few rounds, they were ready to ditch their coats and she went for it on her own!

Complimentary hot chocolate. And it was gooood.

It was really fun to live in their enchanted world for a few days. (It was the perfect place to escape the snow in the northeast and run around the resort; There’s no need to leave!) We can’t wait to go back some summer and check out the warm weather activities.
