Powder Room
While I’ve mentioned that the previous owners of our home renovated the entire thing, gutting the kitchen and bathrooms and did a fantastic job (we didn’t want to change a thing except a coat of paint), our decor tastes are very different from theirs. It was never more evident as with the powder room. While they favored a more dramatic look, we wanted something a little more muted and subtle.
We swapped out their black and white striped paper and hot pink walls for this sunburst paper. I wanted something classic and rather adult after feeling like we’d lived like post-collegiates for way too many years. I also wanted something that complimented the rest of the house and since we have so much blue and white and gold, this paper perfectly exemplified what I was looking for. I also wanted, since it’s a small room and off of a bunch of white painted ones, to go bold.
Next to go was the black chandelier.
I wanted something a little more subtle when it came to the light fixture since the wallpaper is so bold. And I’m kind of over chandeliers. So when I saw this Clark Flush Mount in Hand-Rubbed Brass, I was sold.
And, finally, the mirror.
The one they had, with all do respect, felt like a filler for me. Something you find in any generic room. I wanted something more specific to this space, more of a statement and one that complimented the room more. It’s no surprise I love Serena & Lily and when I found this mosaic mirror that echoed the sunbursts and went with the sink, I knew I’d found it.
Still waiting to retile the floor from black to blue but we’re waiting till the basement construction is finished so we’re only tackling one messy project at a time. But here’s the before and after for now. Would love to hear your thoughts!
Love the wallpaper! The change looks terrific!
