Paradise Island
My adventurous streak continued. I’d never been rock climbing before and you chose it so I finally scratched it off my list. What a way to ring in 36!
I love challenging myself and trying new things so this was perfect.
Or so I thought. Until I tried the damn thing. It was so much harder than it looks!
Balancing on those tiny pegs, lifting your entire body weight, being thirty-five feet in the air, sweaty palms, slipping feet… I almost gave up. I kept thinking, “This is vacation. What am I doing?”
But there was no way I wasn’t completing the challenge. I’m entering a new year, a new chapter in my life, a daunting, overwhelming, scary, thrilling, unchartered endeavor with this site and that freaking wall mattered more than I previously thought.
So I took a break, a few breaths, wiped my palms, gave myself a little pep talk and finished the f*cker.
Ringing that bell after two wall climbs and utter fatigue was the sweetest sound.
And then we went for beers. Kalik, a local beer is better than Sands, another Bahamian brew, according to our new favorite bartender.
You chose Yes Please by Amy Poehler and you chose well. She’s so refreshingly honest, real and funny as hell. I found myself laughing out loud and nodding my head in agreement all afternoon. What a great way to spend a day! It didn’t hurt that it was on a floating bed in a pool in the Bahamas.
After relaxing the rest of the afternoon, it was time for my birthday dinner. Where better than the One & Only Ocean Club? You chose, we visited.
The view was spectacular, the service impeccable and the food amazing.
The two resorts offer shuttle service to one another and have an open, welcome relationship, which is such the Bahamian way. Love when people work together instead of compete!
Once more, we tried the local delicacy, conch. This salad was phenomenal. So fresh, so flavorful. Truly one of the better things I’ve had in my life.
But the best part of the trip was not the over-the-top meals, stunning settings, new experiences, fashion, drinks… it was being dirty-haired, makeup-free and comfy with nothing to do and nowhere to be with this guy. Bliss.
And then it was time to return to our girl. Until next time Bahamas!
