Maine Memories

Two weeks ago, one of my best friends got married in her hometown of Maine. I cannot believe, in 17 years of friendship, I’d never been. Shameful. But after my fabulous first visit, I can assure you (and her!), it’s not my last.

I fell in love with the beauty, food, friendliness and slow-paced nature of the great state of Maine.

We stayed in Portland and visited Cape Elizabeth, Peaks Island and Kennebunkport.

Below my favorite finds and photos.

Portland has a fantastic food scene. Middle Street is where it’s at!

Eventide Oyster Co. has the best oysters and lobster rolls our crew had ever had.

Their rolls are mini and served three ways: traditional mayo, ginger scallion and brown butter. All incredible but the winner, hands down, was the brown butter.

The Shishito peppers, corn on the cob, fried chicken, seafood stew, biscuits and ice cream sandwich were also all amazing.

The people at Eventide know what they’re doing! So much so, we went back for a second time in two days.

Duck FatFore Street and Hugo’s all delicious dinner options as well.

Bintliff’s for breakfast. A mouthwatering menu served in a charming old home.

Cinnamon roll pancakes. Enough said.

Portland Headlight, one of the most iconic lighthouses in the state, is worth checking out as is the rest of the quaint village of Cape Elizabeth.

Some fun shots from the wedding. (I make it a point to not share pics of brides— it’s their right of what photos to release and when—so you won’t find those here.)

If you’re interested in the quiet life, Peaks Island is for you (and your kids). Only accessible by ferry, bike is the main mode of transport. Cruise around and stop for ice cream at the island’s main gathering spot Down Front.

Kennebunkport is stunning. There’s no wonder the Bushes built their compound there. Beyond the presidential palace, there’s adorable eateries and shops in this picturesque New England town.

Next time, we’re going for longer and bringing our babe with us. It’s the perfect little family vacation.
