Family Fun on BHI

And then it was time for this again. We recruited Jess. Two years ago, she and Amanda were both preggo and couldn’t join. I was feeling good until she asked about alligators.

The instructor’s response was less than settling.

I spent my SUPventure silently freaking out.

So much so that I wasn’t paying attention to what was ahead (I kept looking at the marsh behind) and ran into and crashed onto this boat. We haven’t laughed that hard in awhile. All at my expense.

Clearly, we survived. But my reputation as a skilled water sportsman did not. Nothing a little beach bonfire couldn’t remedy.

My little reader can’t be separated from her books.

We did story time every morning in the golf cart. It was really fun and something I’ll always remember.

When it came time for family photo night on the beach, I was a little anxious. After all, these things (last summerChristmas) always tend to be stressful. And, after refusing the beach in June, I was sure Lilly would freak at the sight of sand. Well, when you set the bar low, friends, there’s only up!

But (as we saw above), she loved it! Collective sigh.

unnamed-72

So did her friends.

Splashing in the water in her clothes might have been the highlight.

The weather and setting were stunning that evening. For once, everything was working in our favor. I’ll always remember that night. One of our best.

If you get the chance to go with your friends and their kids on vacation, do it. Don’t think about the logistics or allow yourself to become overwhelmed with the chaos. Save up, use points or miles, barter for or borrow a house. Whatever it takes. It was worth every insane moment. Watching our kids grow together and make lasting memories with friends that have become family is priceless. I may be crazy but I can’t wait till we do it again.
