Costume Swap

Lilly and I thought it would be fun to do a DIY craft. We came up with ghost glasses or, as the sign read (cause someone played with the lightbox before the party and lost an “S”) Ghostly Glassé. They’re French. Our ghosts are fancy. I ordered these glasses (Harry Potter, anyone?), popped out the lenses and traced the eye holes on paper. I then drew a ghost face around the eyes on paper and cut it out to trace as a stencil on foam paper, cut out some foam ghosts, let the kids decorate them with stickers and washi tape and, when they were done, hot glued the faces to the glasses.

I’m kicking myself for not getting a group shot with their ghost faces. In fact, it was so active, crazy and fun, that I didn’t get many shots of the kids (didn’t capture Grady or Corinne at all). Yet another lesson. Next party, I need to take a moment, step back, see what I’m missing and then bribe them all with more sugar for that shot.

Hayes took it upon himself to decorate Lilly’s bus from last year instead.

Lilly was begging me from the moment she woke up from her nap, before her friends arrived and throughout the first thirty minutes of the party for cake. Finally she got her wish and proceeded to steal anyone’s who wasn’t looking throughout the rest of the afternoon.

Dylan was so cute, he wanted to take a ghost napkin as a favor.

Cute little pirate.

Half-witch, half-super hero, 100% adorable.

Henry had one hand on the pirate flag, another on the popcorn at all times.

Since the paper doll kits were such a hit at the Mermaid sprinkle, I decided to get not one but two sets (spooky skeleton and cool ghouls) for Halloween.

We know I love getting a new book for each occasion. This cute one, No Such Thing, has kids count the hidden ghosts on each page. I left it out for another optional activity.

As for favors, in addition to everyone taking home costumes and accessories, ghost glasses, bat wands, drink cups and treats, each kid got a melting witch, dancing pumpkin, monster fingermini and Halloween tattoos, nail stickers, a note pad and boo themed Band-Aids and a magic towel (both $1 from Target. Gotta love that aisle!)

And the girls also got charm necklaces and hair clips.

They also helped themselves to more treats when they thought we weren’t looking.

I think it’s safe to say, they had a great time!
